The Baltic to Black Sea Alliance (BBSA) is an International NGO for Regional Security and Democracy. The Alliance was founded on October 31, 2008 in Riga as a reaction to Georgia-Russia war. The main objective of the Alliance is the promotion of Western values (legal norm transfer, obedience of human rights, free media, anti-corruption activities, among others) through exchange of experts, educational activities, publishing of articles, and reciprocity between Eastern Partnership and the EU and NATO countries in all possible levels. The structure and memberships of the Alliance ensure expertise in Baltic Sea Region and also Eastern Partnership Countries.
The Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO) is a non-governmental organisation that brings together like-minded individuals who want to promote Latvia`s membership of NATO. LATO aims to inform Latvian society about NATO and Latvian membership of the Alliance, to promote cooperation with other countries in order to inform the citizens of these countries about Latvia as a NATO member state, and to organise public information events about topical Latvian and Euro-Atlantic security policy issues. LATO has been responsible for organizing the annual Rīga Conference, largest Baltic Sea Region and Transatlantic expert gathering, since Riga NATO Summit in 2006.
